On top of a large hill that rises up from the center of modern Athens stands the Acropolis, the most notable structure of which is the Parthenon. It was built as a temple to honor the goddess Athena and stands out as a symbol of the culture, wealth, and pride of the ancient Athenians. The ruins of many other buildings and two massive amphitheaters surround the Parthenon. It was built over the top of an earlier sacred temple, and the hill itself is a great power spot and beacon of light.
