One big learning experience

Life is always attempting to move us in the direction of our own evolution and development. This takes place in many different ways. In fact, every experience and event of our lives is part of that process. Most people are relatively unaware of this fact. They are passive participants in their evolutionary journey, or even actively resist it, if life isn’t going the way they feel it should. Once we become aware of the fact that life is one big learning experience, it’s easier to cooperate with the process. We can actively support and participate in our own healing and growth.

There Are Always Difficult Times

In the journey of consciousness, there are inevitably times of difficulty and confusion. Often, we make ourselves really wrong at those times. We beat ourselves up because we think we should already have it all together.
What we don’t understand is that every time we move to a deeper level of understanding, there’s a period of confusion. Often, painful or scary emotions come up at those times. But each difficult time is rewarded by a real expansion and deepening of awareness. As we learn that this is a continuing process and stop expecting complete understanding at all times, it becomes easier and easier to get through those times of confusion.

Clear communication

I’ve found a very interesting thing. When I communicate truthfully and directly, in a nonblaming, nonjudgmental way, and say everything I really want to say, it doesn’t seem to matter so much how the other person responds. They may not do exactly what I want, but I feel so clear and empowered from taking care of myself that it’s easier to let go of the result. If I keep being honest and vulnerable with my feelings to my partner, family, and friends, I won’t end up with hidden needs or resentments.
