A powerful and useful message

Sometimes we get sick because we believe on an unconscious level that illness is an appropriate or inevitable response to a situation or circumstance. In some way, it seems to solve a problem for us, give us something we need, or is a solution to an unresolved and unbearable inner conflict.

Rather than thinking of illness as disaster, we can think of it as a powerful and useful message. If we are suffering, it is a message that there is something to be looked at within our consciousness, something to be recognized, acknowledged, and healed. It may indicate that there is something about the way we are living that needs to be changed in order for us to be emotionally healthier.

It has been my experience that many of us need help in the form of supportive therapy or counseling to deal with deep levels of emotional healing. For some of us, there is a certain reluctance to seek help, perhaps because we fear it is an indication of weakness, sickness, or craziness. Personally, I have sought therapy of various types at many times in my life and it has helped me greatly as long as I trusted my own intuition about who to work with, when to stop, and so on. Finding our wholeness

In the past men have desperately needed women to provide them with the nurturing, intuitive, and emotional support they need, and women have been dependent on men to take care of them and provide for them in the physical world. It seems like a perfect arrangement, except for one problem. When you don’t feel whole, as an individual, when you feel your survival depends on others, you are constantly afraid of losing them.

We have been struggling with these “old male” and “old female” roles for many generations. So it is wonderful that we are beginning to discover that each of us has all the qualities within to be whole.
